Joaquín Oltra Hernández
Hi, I am Joaquin. This is my personal site, with a few notes below about my work and some of the things I like.
Work
I am a software engineer by trade. Over the years I have been a frontend engineer, tech lead, developer advocate, and engineering manager across big enterprise companies, open source, and smaller startups. I love working with tight-knit teams and bringing thoughtful, maintainable products to life, and shaping autonomous teams, great culture and work processes.
Programming
UI: I like creating clean, beautiful interfaces with design systems, CSS, and web languages.
Languages: I love learning new programming languages, from ClojureScript, Elm, and OCaml to Rust, Gleam, and Odin.
Compilers: I am captivated by type systems and have implemented my own ML-like language.
Play: Art and games nourish the soul, I love exploring that through generative art, live graphics sketches, and small games.
Tools: I use programming to make tiny utilities for real workflows that help me and the people I know.
More
Travel: Seeing the world and meeting people across cultures and languages has shaped a lot of my life.
Family: I am raising a wonderful family with lots of kids.
Books: Philosophy and science fiction are what I reach for most often.
Body: Strength training, exercise, and eating well help me take care of myself.
Games: I get lost in videogames every once in a while, and I love playing with others as a way to bond.
